A system used for decades inside the author's auditing practice is now open to the public. The same author is leading the release, and built the whole system.
simplicityERP was not written as a product looking for a market. It was the working system of the author's auditing practice, used exclusively for private clients.
That practice use is now the public cloud release. The author is heading the release, and remains the person who developed the system of more than 3,300 programs.
Development is done in FlexGen 4, a rapid application development tool. FlexGen holds the files, the fields and the links, together with the IO modules for those files.
It also holds the forms and windows, the reports, and the external sources. Screen processing and file processing stay inside the tool. The developer does not hand-code that layer.
A change is a short path. Add or modify the program in the tool, add the new element, pick the fields and drop them on the form, construct and compile, then add the program to the menu.
Anyone with COBOL knowledge can maintain and enhance the system. Every program has escape points for your own code, so local rules sit beside the generated processing instead of inside it.
The CEO is responsible for the highest level of training and support the user needs. New development stays quick, because the tool already owns the screen and the file.
